My Tips for New Teachers

As a new teacher, it is very hard to know right away what to do. It is very important to get a mentor to help you through your first year. I would try to get someone that teaches the same courses as you do so when you need help with lesson plans, they are already aware of your goals and can help you. During the new teacher training class, you should really talk to the other new teachers. Find out what is working for them and what is not. They have already made mistakes and you can learn from these. They have also had successes that you can also learn from. Also check teacher training classes offered through your school. There are classes that can help you with things you do not know. Remember, ASK. If you do not know the answer to something, do not make it up, ask. If you are frustrated, ask for help. Don’t let yourself get frustrated. Students can tell when you are in trouble. Be sure to get help before you get to that point.
